AGEHR AREA II, INC.
ENDOWMENT FUND APPLICATION & APPROVAL PROCESS
GENERAL MISSION STATEMENT - The American Guild of English Handbell
Ringers(AGEHR), Inc. and AGEHR Area II (Area II) Inc. are dedicated to advancing
the musical art of handbell/handchime ringing through education,community and
communication.
THE AREA II ENDOWMENT PROGRAM - Area II supports the use of
handbells/handchimes in traditional ways and settings. It also promotes the
developmentof new styles, uses and circumstances. The primary purpose of
Area II is to educate handbell directors and ringers, and to help them
realize their full musical potential.
Two avenues of application are offered through Area II:
(a) Application for Scholarships and
(b) Application for General Endowment Program or Project support:
AREA II SCHOLARSHIPS AND/OR NEW FESTIVAL GRANTS
Area II offers scholarships for attending AGEHR National Conferences, Area II
Festivals, Beginning Directors Seminars and Read and Ring Seminars offered on
the national and area level, as well as providing grants for starting new
Handbell Educational Festivals.
Area II Scholarships and New Festival Grants are available only to members of
Area II in good standing. Applicants must be a resident within the Area II
geographical region (New Jersey, New York, Pensylvania and the Province of Ontario).
Scholarships and Grants are offered by application through the
following separate application forms:

AREA II GENERAL ENDOWMENT
PROJECT/PROGRAM FUNDING
Area II Scholarships and New Festival Grants are available only to members of
Area II in good standing. Applicants must be a resident within the Area II
geographical region (New Jersey, New York, Pensylvania and the Province of Ontario).
If application is pending, please include a copy of your check and
application form.
Projects to be supported must meet the following requirements:
(i) Serve the mission and ideals of Area II.
(ii) Promote expanded enjoyment and appreciation of Handbells/Handchimes.
In addition, applicants should apply for support in one or more of
the following Program Areas:
(I) RESEARCH AND EDUCATION: The project must promote research or education or
new handbell/handchime technique or styles.The research must be scientifically
defensible and sufficiently developed to be eligible for publication.
(II) HANDBELLS FOR THE MUSICALLY UNDERSERVED: The project must benefit and/or support
an organization(s) without access to handbells/handchimes. Eligibility may include a
musically underserved population not part of a formal ongoing music program.
(III) FORMAL EDUCATION: The project must promote and stimulate the use of
handbells/handchimes in formal education. To be eligible the instruments must be used in appropriate classes and may be used as a
performance instrument.
(IV) HANDBELLS FOR SPECIAL NEEDS GROUPS: The project must promote and stimulate the use of handbells/handchimes with special
needs groups. To be eligible the program must be (i) supervised by a qualified music teacher/therapist
and (ii) involve a musically underserved population.
APPLICATION REVIEW
Applications are accepted year round. Please notethat two of our scholarship applications
have separate application deadlines. Other applications will be reviewed as received on
a periodic basis. For multi year projects, grant amounts will be for no more than the amount required
in the year in which the grant is awarded. Multi year projects will be given priority
for funding in the remaining year(s) of the project period.
All grantees agree to the following upon award of grant:
(i) Within one year from date of award, grantee shall complete a report to the Endowment
Committee detailing the project's implementation and full documentation
of use of grant, how goals were met, and other outcomes.
(ii) Within one year from date of award, grantees shall prepare an article describing the
project for Twice Tolled Tales, including photos as requested.
